Hester Creek Estate Winery comprises some of British Columbia’s oldest vineyards in the bountiful Golden Mile region.

The 95-acre, Mediterranean-influenced grounds, winery, and guest villas evoke an old-world sense of tranquility that take you back to a more simple, unhurried era: a time when a young girl named Hester pondered life and daydreamed by the edge of the creek that would later take her name. Discover winemaker Rob Summers’ fresh, lively wines that truly convey the extraordinary place where they were grown. Relax on the patio, among the vines, or browse in the new wine shop for local artisan foods, glassware and accoutrement to accompany your wine purchases. Visit one of the world’s most recent and exciting wine discoveries. The Okanagan Valley’s “Golden Mile Bench” and Hester Creek await your arrival.

Hester Creek’s grapevines were first planted on our estate in 1968, when Italian immigrant and would-be grape grower Joe Busnardo was looking for the perfect spot to plant the cuttings he’d brought from Italy. There were only a few other vineyards in the Okanagan Valley; he could have planted anywhere. He chose this spot, a sun-drenched, east-facing bench south of Oliver for good reason: it’s the perfect place to grow grapes.

Well-draining alluvial soil, sunny days and cool evenings encourage the development of complex and intense flavours; while the warmer temperatures and slope of the bench help the vines avoid the damaging frost that can settle on the valley floor in early spring and late fall.

No wonder it’s known as the Golden Mile Bench.
